The Smut Report Interview & Adventures w/Mom
Yes, that title is correct. I did an author interview with THE SMUT REPORT, just the mention of which would probably send my sweet, Southern Baptist, almost 90-year-old mother into heart palpitations. So those of you who know her … let’s just not mention this, okay?
I have to give her fair due though. She made it through the sex scenes in Chasing Shadows better than I thought she would. When I got my first box of author copies, she insisted on reading it, even though romance novels are so not her cup of tea. I tried to give her a pass, but she wasn’t having it. So, I paper-clipped closed the sex scenes — she’d just have to deal with all the innuendo between — and told her to skip over those parts.
Did she follow my instructions? She did NOT.
I must get my resistance to rule-following from her.
She did ask for clarification on one ‘term she wasn’t’ familiar with’ (fortunately not from one of the sex scenes!) Since my mom is a super-smart, super-educated woman, I couldn’t think of any word I’ve ever written she wouldn’t already know unless it was a legal term, and I didn’t think I’d put any of those in the book without explaining them. The word? Clusterfuck. Yeah. Ah, Mother dear. If I’m pushing you outside your comfort zone, you’re bound and determined to return the favor, aren’t you?? Love that lady!!
ANYWAY, back to THE SMUT REPORT. If you’re not already familiar, it’s a website all about romance novels. It’s packed with book reviews, author interviews, podcasts, articles, and links to awesome romance bookstores around the country. If you like romance novels, it’s a great place to hang out and read not only about specific books you might want to check out, but trends and debates within the industry and both the virtues and the blind spots of the genre. And despite the name, it covers ALL kinds of romance, from the sweet ‘they-shared-a-kiss’ kind to the down and dirty, darkest of romances.
So, for those of you who want to check out my Smut Report Author Interview —and promise not tell my mom about it — you can find it here: https://smutreport.com/?s=Cat+Jameson
Enjoy!!!

Can’t wait to read. I can say that are sweet almost 90-year-old mother is the one that often educated me.
Loved your interview! Kathleen Woodwiss provided my first smutty read too (mine was “Shanna”, still my favorite of hers probably because it was my first). Congrats on all the wonderful news!
